Is it a fact - or have I dreamt it - that, by means of electricity, the world of matter has become a great nerve, vibrating thousands of miles in a breathless point of time?
Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-64), U.S. author.
Clifford Pyncheon, in The House of the Seven Gables, ch. 17 (1851)

Using Your Power of Positive Thinking

It is pouring rain. Two guys are looking out the window. "Darn," says one of them, "look at that ugly weather. I hate it when it rains! I can’t play any golf, can’t get outside. There is just nothing to do!" With that, he angrily withdraws to himself and holds a negative attitude the whole day.

"Wow, look at that beautiful rain," says the other one. "It is perfect. I can finally pick up my favorite book and read. It is great for the grass, too." With that, he happily moves on, keeping the positive attitude the whole day.

In this scenario we had two different guys with two different attitudes. One became negative, while the other one remained positive, through the same exact circumstance. One’s day was ruined, while the other’s remained perfect, just by the different way they looked at the same event.

Did either one of them change the weather? No. So, why not just be the positive guy and go on in life looking at the bright side of everything. The half empty glass is always half full!

I use this story in my lectures and seminars, but on one occasion, I had to tell it to my kids. Ever since then, they have been trying to find the positive in all the negative events. "Too cold for the beach? Well, at least we can go and play tennis." Once we drove an hour to the Skatium, just to find out that they had a hockey tournament. "Well, at least we can watch a hockey game!"

Diet Education for Better Health

Let's face it: You are overweight. So are most of Americans. You want to lose a few pounds, maybe more. You have tried seemingly everything. So did most of Americans. While most of the world is struggling to make ends meet and a big part of it is actually starving, two thirds of Americans are overweight. Thirty percent are considered obese. Diabetes 2, also known as adult onset diabetes has been diagnosed with more and more school aged children every day. How can that be?

This is one of the most advanced countries in the world. We have all the opportunities to make our lives complete and happy. Starvation is definitely the last thing on our minds. Our supermarkets, the super-hyper-ultra-huge-gigantic-monstrous-markets, are full of food. Not just any food. Every food!

We can buy fresh fruits and vegetables at any time of the year. We can buy absolutely anything at any time of the year.

We just walk in and pick our own beautiful, juicy, colorful, nutritious and healthy fruits and vegetables. Our poor hunting-and-gathering ancestors would have never believed how easy it is to gather nowadays. I am sure this would still be a novelty in many parts of the modern world.

So, we have the opportunity to eat fresh and healthy foods at will. Then why do we eat old and dead food most of the time? Well, I try not to, but why do you? What makes you pick up that can of lifeless spinach, when you can have the fresh, vibrant, and live variety at any time?
